This notice explains what Streamwreck does with personal data. It is the canonical statement; section 12 of the [EULA](/eula) points here rather than repeating it, so the two cannot drift apart.
Nothing you see, say, type, or point a camera at ever reaches us. Streamwreck runs on your computer and its effects are produced there. We hold only what is needed to make a license work: a key, a fingerprint of the device it runs on, when it checks in, your connected channels, and — if your payment provider gives it to us — the email you bought with.
We do not sell data or use it for advertising or profiling. We know which channels use Streamwreck, not what happens on them or which effects you use.
The Software captures your screen, and — if you enable camera effects — your webcam, locally on your own computer, to draw effects on your own display and your own broadcast. We do not receive, transmit, store, or have any access to:
Card details go to the payment provider and its processors, never to us.
We also collect no usage analytics or telemetry of any kind. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, and no usage beacon in the application.
| Data | Why | Where it comes from | |---|---|---| | License key | To know which license is which | Issued by us on purchase | | Hardware fingerprint of the activated device | To enforce one live activation per key | Derived on your machine from a machine identifier; it is a one-way value, not your hardware serial | | Activation and heartbeat timestamps | To tell a live seat from an abandoned one | Your app checking in | | Email address associated with your purchase | To send your key, support you, and process refunds | Your payment provider, where it supplies it | | IP address of license check-ins | To detect one key being used on two machines at once, and to rate-limit abuse | Your connection | | Your connected channels | To keep a license with one person, detect sharing, and see who streams with Streamwreck | From your Settings | | Free trial records — a one-way hash of your IP address and of your network block, plus an approximate location (country, region, city) | To enforce one free trial per person, and to stop automated abuse | Your connection, when you start a free trial |
We do not store your IP address in readable form anywhere. For activation it is used and discarded, appearing only in short-lived operational logs. For free trials we keep a one-way hash of it, plus a hash of your network block and an approximate location — never the address itself. A hash lets us recognize that the same connection has asked before; it cannot be turned back into your address, and we cannot look you up by it.
Why trials are treated differently. A free trial is the one thing we give away, so it is the one thing worth abusing. Without some record, one person can take unlimited free copies. We chose the least identifying thing that works: hashes rather than addresses, and a location no more precise than a city. We do not require a credit card for a trial, and we do not want one.
We do not rely on consent for any of the above, so there is no consent for you to withdraw — but every right in section 7 still applies.
We share personal data with nobody else. We do not sell it, rent it, or disclose it for advertising. We may disclose data where the law requires it.
Our license server is located in the United States. If you are outside the United States, using Streamwreck means your license data is transferred to and stored there.
Wherever you live, and regardless of what the law where you live requires of us, we will honor a request to:
If you are in the UK, EU, or EEA, these are your rights under the UK GDPR / GDPR, and you also have the right to complain to your data protection supervisory authority.
Email 8mcgraw@gmail.com to exercise any of these. We will respond within 30 days. Note that deleting an active license record will deactivate that license — we cannot keep a license working and delete the record that makes it work.
License records are kept while the license is active, and for up to 24 months after it lapses, is refunded, or is revoked, after which they are deleted or anonymized. Operational logs are kept for a shorter period in the ordinary course of running the service.
Connected channels are kept while your license exists and deleted when it is revoked or refunded, or when you ask.
A history of when your license was in use, and by which connected channels, is kept while your license exists and deleted when it is revoked or refunded, or when you ask.
Free trial records (the hashes and approximate location above) are kept for 24 months, which is what makes "one free trial per person" mean anything over time. They are one-way hashed already, so what remains identifies nobody.
Streamwreck is not intended for and may not be used by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, email us and we will delete it.
If this notice changes materially we will update the date at the top and, where the change affects data we already hold, tell license holders by email.
